Did you know you can make pom poms with a fork!!! Here's how to create your own yarn pom pom braided bookmark with a felt heart.

This is the perfect handmade gift to give for Valentines Day or any day really. These bookmarks are pretty simple to make and a super sweet and fun craft to give to the book lover in your life. All you need is yarn, a fork, and felt is optional for the bottom.

Please feel free to message me if you are stuck or have any questions. I'll do my best to explain in detail. Step by step photos are below. Remember to have fun and enjoy!!

PS: My 1st try was an epic fail and my pom pom fell apart, but you learn from your mistakes and go forward.

WHAT YOU NEED:

Scissors

Yarn

Measuring tape

Felt - optional

INSTRUCTIONS:

Cut 2 pieces of yarn 40" long

1. Using a fork, thread the 2 cut strings of yarn through the middle prong & move out of the way

2. Begin wrapping yarn from the ball around the fork. Once you have a nice ball, cut the yarn from ball. I wrapped about 100 times.

3. Take one of the 40" yarn pieces from either side of fork and tie a knot tightly.

4. With sharp scissors, cut along each side, being careful not to cut the 40" threads.

5. Gently remove the pom pom from fork & tie another knot with the other 40" long string. Make sure this knot is tighter than the first, otherwise your pom pom will fall apart. Fluff & straighten out your pom pom. (no picture for this step)

6. Trim ends to straighten out your pom pom, make sure to not cut your 40" strings. once you have a nice shape, cut off the 4th piece of the long 40" string. So you now have 3 long strings.

7. Braid the remaining 3 long stings. I weighted down the pom pom to make life easy so it stays still while braiding. Tie a know at the end of the braid.

8. Now, you can leave it as is, or add a felt heart to the end.

For heart design, cut out 2 hearts from felt. Position hearts with knot sandwiched inside. For a no-sew option, secure together with fabric glue or hot glue. Or, you can hand stitch a decorative stitch using your preferred stitch.

Viola! A final fluff & you are done!

STEP 5 - No picture.
